ORONO ‚Äď The University of Maine was recognized for ‚ÄúPublic Institution Leadership in Campus Sustainability‚ÄĚ by The Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. Sustainability Coordinator Lori Lommler presented the University‚Äôs approach toward creating a sustainable future and accepted the leadership award at the USGBC Maine Chapter‚Äôs November 10 Annual Meeting, In the Limelight, which was held at Bowdoin College.
‚ÄúThe depth and breadth of UMaine‚Äôs sustainable commitment can be seen in its curricula and initiatives, in its policies and procedures and, especially, in the degree to which student involvement has informed these efforts,‚ÄĚ explains USGBC Maine Chapter Executive Director Katye T. Charette.
This year‚Äôs Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council annual meeting, In the Limelight, featured the “green stories” taking place on Maine’s college and university campuses. Special recognition was given to University of Maine at Orono; Bowdoin College; St. Joseph’s College of Maine and Unity College. In addition, the USGBC Maine Chapter awarded special recognition to long-time sustainability advocate Lance Fletcher.
