Spots open for Damariscotta Lake sailing camp

Jefferson -

DAMARISCOTTA -The Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association (DLWA) and the Central Lincoln County YMCA are hosting a youth sailing camp this summer on Damariscotta Lake. There are still spots available for this new and exciting program, which is the only sailing camp in northern Lincoln County.

The camp will be based out of the DLWA headquarters at 38 Lake Farm Circle in Jefferson. DLWA raised money to buy the sailboats for the program.

Campers will have the opportunity to learn to sail on two tech dinghies, which are good boats for beginners because they are small and easy to handle. Two 420-class boats will also be used for the camp. Though around 13 children have signed up so far, there is room for 50.

Camp will consist of weeklong half-day sessions during the month of July. Mornings will be for younger campers and afternoons for older children. The cost is $115 for YMCA members and $160 for nonmembers. Financial aid is available from the YMCA, and DLWA sponsored eight local children.

No sailing experience is required, but children should be comfortable in the water and must pass a swim check. Parents wishing to enroll their children should contact the CLC YMCA online at www.clcymca.org or call 563-3477.  Learn more at www.dlwa.org.
