BANGOR – The Kahbang Festival will host the world premiere of the Maine independent film “Up Up Down Down” at Bennet’s Market, 56 Main Street, in downtown Bangor. The film will premiere at 3:25 pm on August 13th as part of the Kahbang Festival’s “Maine on Main” film series.
The film was written by and produced by Maine talent. Written by Jeremy Stover of Bangor and Allen Baldwin of Norridgewock, “Up Up Down Down” is the story of Steve and Julie, a young couple whose relatively unexciting lives are interrupted by an unexpected pregnancy. The young underachievers attempt to deal with the difficulties and decisions of an unwanted pregnancy. Their crass naivete concerning their situation and their questions about their future provide the basis of a humorous new take on a classic problem. ‘Up Up Down Down’ is at times superlatively immature and touching, riding the ebb and flow of a young couple dealing with the process of moving on in their lives, kicking and screaming all the way
The film stars newcomers Erik Moody, who is from Saco, and Kristina Balbo, who grew up in Oakland. The rest of the cast and crew is entirely native, down to the bands that produced music for the film. Local bands contributing music to the soundtrack include Phantom Buffalo, Robber and Thief, and Doubletone, as well as artist Galen Richmond of East Madison, and Carlos Cuellar of Cumberland.
It will be an event of interest for anyone who appreciates seeing the work of local artists, or has an interest in the vibrant local independent film scene.
This is the latest film from Strongpaw Productions. In 2002, Strongpaw Productions screened “Twelve Steps Outside” to sold out crowds in Portland and Waterville.
