Workshop Targets Women’s Political Empowerment

WATERVILLE – Maine Business and Professional Women will be hosting a workshop for women entitled, “Empowering Women Politically” to kick off National Business Women’s Week from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Center/Forum Room, 93 Main Street in Waterville. Registration for the workshop and lunch is $35. Please register by Oct. 8 by contacting Mary Hammond, at (207) 437-2325.

A full day of speakers is planned, including Congressman Michael Michaud from Maine’s 2nd Congressional District; his opponent, Jason Levesque, and a representative from Senator Susan Collins’ office.

Sarah Standiford, Executive Director of the Maine Women’s Lobby, will be the keynote speaker at 9:15. with the topic, “Women, Get Political: You Can Shape the Election-Year Debate—And Beyond!”.

Melissa MacCrea, feminist activist, writer, and Copy Editor of the Bangor Daily News will speak about “ERA: 5 Years, 3 States, 1 Law”, and will have her book , “It Takes A Woman: Women Shaping Public Policy”, available for purchase.

Representatives of AAUW Maine and BPW/Maine will speak about legislative issues of importance to all women. BPW/Maine Member of the Year, Marie Saucier of the Bangor area Uptown BPW, will be honored during lunch.
