ELLSWORTH -¬† Woodlawn Museum hosts a workshop on edible and medicinal mushrooms from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24. Join author and field mycologist David Spahr for an illustrated talk and slide show.¬† Mr. Spahr will focus on finding, collecting, identifying and preparing common edible and medicinal mushroom species of Maine, New England, and Eastern Canada. He will also discuss which species of mushrooms work best with which cooking process and their best match with food and wine.
David Spahr, author, naturalist, photographer, and edible forest farmer, has collected edible mushrooms for 37 years. He is on the Maine Mushroom Task Force developing rules for the foraging and sale of wild mushrooms. His book, Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of New England and Eastern Canada, was released in July 2009.
