On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend – almost – in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
Unique to this production is the casting. Nine different couples ranging in age from 25-65 bring these characters to life. Three of the couples are real-life married couples, which brings an interesting dynamic to this production. ‚ÄúUsing real-life couples makes the process exciting on many levels. The actors relate to each other in a way that is both familiar (given their relationship status) and unfamiliar (given the fact that they are exploring a different couple‚Äôs issues),‚ÄĚ explains Jeri Misler, producer and co-director. ‚ÄúThe age range of the couples adds to the appeal. John Cariani has written fully-dimensional people who experience love and loss at varying stages in their lives. I‚Äôm very proud that we have 16 adult actors involved; it brings truth and richness to the production.‚ÄĚ
