WINTER HARBOR РDr. Steve Ressel of College of the Atlantic will present an illustrated lecture on winter ecology, describing how our resident animals survive the cold at 7 p.m.  Wednesday, Dec. 8 in the Moore Auditorium on the SERC campus in Winter Harbor.
Steve has been interested in amphibians and reptiles since he was a child and his research interests as a graduate student in how temperature impacts the lives of these animals eventually led him into the realm of winter ecology. Stories in the Snow will highlight some of the remarkable adaptations that year-round resident animals of Maine possess in response to potentially lethal winter conditions. From frozen frogs to mice with specialized heater tissue, Steve will draw on numerous field experiences that he has shared with his students while teaching his Winter Ecology course at COA.
