Week-long Auction of 200+ Gift Baskets Supports 2,000+ Area Seniors

Bangor -

BANGOR – The Hammond Street Senior Center’s annual week-long “It’s A Basket Case” silent auction of more than 200 gift baskets begins Monday, Dec. 6 and runs through Friday, Dec. 10 at 2 Hammond Street, Downtown Bangor. Baskets of every shape and size, overflowing with more than $8,000 in gift certificates and merchandise donated by local businesses, senior center members and community supporters, are all assembled and ready for your gift-giving needs for every one of any age or interest on your list.

There are tickets to the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and cruises of the historic Maine schooner the Margaret Todd; overnight stays at Loon Hollow Cottages and the Courtyard by Marriott; lots of food, wine and goodies from local eateries; gift certificates to get your whole house cleaned by Affordable Home and Office Cleaning, your teeth whitened by Dr. Robert Brookings and your eyes checked at Smart EyeCare; jewelry from the Diamond and Gold Mine Outlet; as well as locally handmade jewelry, chocolates and many items simply for pampering yourself or loved ones. There are baskets filled with toys and treats from Green Acres Kennel Shop to pamper you favorite dog and kitties, too. Baskets for children are filled with toys, stuffed animals and storybooks from The Briar Patch Books. For the guys, there are hunting, fishing and car themed baskets with great items from local retailers such as Swett’s Tire and Auto and TBA. For couples there are tons of gift certificates to great local eateries like Miquel’s and Thai Siam and overnight getaways at area hotels such as the Courtyard by Marriott sprinkled in amongst baskets filled with vintage kitsch and whimsical surprises!

Bidding opens on Monday, Dec. 6. Baskets can be viewed and bid on at the Senior Center between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the week. A Bidders Guide complete with full-color photos will also be viewable and downloadable from the Senior Center’s website at http://www.hammondstreet.org. Bids will be accepted by phone or email until noon on Friday.

“It’s A Basket Case” Bidding Finale begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10. Sections of baskets will be closed in 20 minute increments — that way if you don’t win a basket you’re bidding on in one section, you can race to a basket in another section and increase your bid on it instead.

In case of a snow or ice storm that forces the Senior Center to close on Friday, the snow date for the “It’s A Basket Case” Finale is 1 p.m. on Monday, December 13.
