ORONO -¬† On October 2, Maine Partners for Cool Communities will be launching a ‚ÄúGreen Sneakers‚ÄĚ project in Orono from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2¬† designed to educate residents about various ways of cutting energy use in the home, which is one of the largest sources of green- house gas emissions in Maine.
Volunteers are needed to go door-to-door to share packets of energy-saving information, to discuss what measures might be the best priorities for each household, and to explain the various financial incentives currently from available from state and federal agencies for weatherization and acquisition of energy-efficient appliances and heating units.
Participants will also distribute a questionnaire pertaining to household sustainability practices, needs, and interests that will be used to plan local projects to reduce energy consumption and to promote a sustainable local economy. The project will continue each Saturday until the end of October.
