THORNDIKE – In recognition of Fire Prevention Month the Unity Area Rotary Club recently donated $500 to the Thorndike Fire Department for their smoke and carbon dioxide detector program. Shown accepting the donation from President Don Newell are Chief Peter Quimby and Asst. Chief Clyde Rolerson.
The department will be presenting fire safety education to area children throughout the month of October by introducing them to firemen in full turnout gear and allowing them to discover that firemen are there to help them. Youngsters will also learn that instead of running and hiding from the sounds of air packs they must go toward the sound where a fireman will take them to safety.
Unity Area Rotary meets at 4:30 on Tuesday at Crosstrax Neighborhood Deli on Depot Street in Unity. To learn more about Rotary or for information on becoming a member go to www.rotary.org.
