BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Maine chapter of the United Nations Association has announced its plans for observation of United Nations day on Oct. 24, to commemorate the signing of the UN Charter in San Francisco on Oct. 24, 1949, by representatives of some 50 governments assembled there as member states of this brave attempt to bring lasting peace to this war-weary world. The plans include a gathering with light refreshments at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the Curtis Memorial Library. Following refreshments Ambassador Charles Dunbar will give a talk at 7 p.m. on the topic ” United Nations Peace operations: Much Maligned Much Needed.”
The talk is free and open to the public.
