THOMASTON, Maine — Trekkers, a local youth mentoring organization, was recently awarded a $5,000 Community Development Grant from Machias Savings Bank. This grant will be used to support the Trekkers organization as it increases student enrollment and serves all six communities of Regional School Unit #13.
Machias Savings Bank‚Äôs President, Larry Barker said, “Machias Savings Bank is proud to support Trekkers and the communities it serves.” Trekkers has been serving area youth since 1994. The program connects 7th through 12th grade students with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure based education. Trekkers is now in the second year of a six-year expansion plan, that will double the number of students served by the program.
‚ÄúAs Trekkers begins the second year of providing expanded programming to more area youth, this generous Community Development Grant from Machias Savings Bank comes at an opportune time for our organization‚ÄĚ said Executive Director Don Carpenter. ‚ÄúMachias Savings Bank‚Äôs support will benefit our local community in many ways. This grant will help Trekkers retain staff and leverage previously secured funds, allowing us to provide experiential learning opportunities to eighty 7th and 8th grade students in the coming year. We are truly grateful to them for supporting our students, our organization and our community through this grant award.‚ÄĚ
