ELLSWORTH, Maine — Mr. Peter Hatch, Director of Grounds and Gardens at Thomas Jeffersonâ€™s Monticello, will present a lecture,” The Fruits and Fruit Trees of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson and the Origins of American Horticulture”Â at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Woodlawn Museum. A 4 p.m. reception and book signing will precede Mr. Hatchâ€™s talk, followed by a question and answer session. Mr. Hatchâ€™s presentation is part of the Downeast Heirloom Apple Week, a week long celebration and exploration of Maineâ€™s heritage apples.
The Downeast Heirloom Apple Week, Oct. 1 – 9 , will feature a series of activities aimed at educating people about Maineâ€™s rich apple history including talks by national experts, school programs, a daylong apple festival on Oct. 8, and an apple pie contest during the Woodlawn Farmersâ€™ Market on Oct. 9.
