BLUE HILL, Maine — The Blue Hill Public Library is looking for volunteer teenagers interested in reading to young children as part of the Library’s “Reading with the Big Kids” program from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday afternoons, at the library. Interested volunteers are invited to an orientation from 3:30 to 4 pm. Monday, Sept. 26. There will be an informal introduction on how to read to young children, what sorts of books are good to read and a brief discussion about how the program works. Refreshments will be served.
“Reading with the Big Kids” is an after-school program that frees parents up to use the library while their kids are being read to on Monday afternoons starting Oct. 17, in the Larchwood Children’s Room. Parents can browse the library, use a computer or chat with a friend, knowing that their children are having fun. No sign up is necessary; families may just drop in. Children can choose books from the collection or bring his or her favorites to share.
The program is a great opportunity for older kids to reminisce with old favorite books, develop acting skills by reading with expression and basically have fun in a relaxed and non-judgmental setting. For more information, call Pat at 374-5515.
