DEER ISLE â€“ Seamark Community Arts is pleased to announce its schedule of art workshops and events for the summer 2010 season. Art workshops for both children and adults begin on July 5 and run through August 21. In addition to art classes, Seamark will hold its annual summer art auction from 5-7pm on Sunday, AugustÂ at the Pearson Legacy Gallery located at 13 Dow Road in Deer Isle. â€śOvals & Eggsâ€ť is the theme of this year’s auction and ornamental goose eggs & oval-inspired art created and embellished by local artists and craftspeople will be featured. There will be an opening reception to begin the silent auction from 5-7pm on Thursday, August 5 at the gallery. The artwork will be on display from August 6-8 for viewing and bidding. Gallery hours will be 10 AM to 5 PM each day.
Seamark kicks off its 2010 children’s program on July 5 â€“ 9 with Island Arts Camp, a week-long arts intensive experience for students in grades K-8. A few spots are still available for interested students by contacting Sue Steed at email@example.com.
Seamark’s weekly art workshops from 9am to noon on July 13 â€“ 15 ,Â with a “Group Mural” class for kids ages 6 and up which will be led by Lila Roo Duncombe-Lieber. Lila will teach classes for children at Seamark this summer on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with a morning session from 9 AM to 12 noon, and an afternoon session from 1 to 4 PM. She will lead a morning “Puppet Theater” class on July 20 & 22, and an afternoon class on “Good Luck Charms from Around the World” on the same dates. Lila’s sister, Elle Duncombe-Mills, will offer a â€śShell Beach Beadingâ€ť class on July 21 or August 18 during the morning session. A series of â€śOpen Studioâ€ť workshops will run in the afternoons on July 21, July 28, August 11, or August 18. During the last week of July, Lila will lead a â€śQuick Performanceâ€ť workshop from 9am to noon on July 27 â€“ 29.
On August 3 & 5, Lila will offer a morning workshop on â€śSailors Valentinesâ€ť for kids. In the afternoon, she will lead a class on â€śPaper Makingâ€ť. The morning of August 4, Lila will teach â€śAnimal Face & Body Paintingâ€ť, and in the afternoon she will help children create masks during an â€śArt Around the World: Masks for Childrenâ€ť workshop. There will be a â€śGroup Sculptureâ€ť workshop for kids on August 10 â€“ 12 during the morning session, and a â€śContrast Dyeingâ€ť workshop on the afternoons of August 10 & 12. Seamark will wind up its children’s workshops with a â€śBook Making, Story Telling & Illustrationâ€ť class on August 17 & 19 during the morning session.
Seamark offers some fun art workshops for adults as well. On July 27 & 29, there will be a â€śCrazy Quiltsâ€ť sewing workshop for beginners and above taught by Haley McDonald of Deer Isle. We’re also pleased to bring back local Sargentville artist, Robert Starkey, who will teach a pastels class for intermediate-level painters titled “Postcards from Maine” on August 14 & 21.
