DEER ISLE ‚Äď Join Seamark Community Arts in celebrating the theme of ‚ÄúOvals & Eggs‚ÄĚ at its 20th annual summer art auction from 5-7pm on Sunday, August 8th at the Pearson Legacy Gallery, 13 Dow Rd, Deer Isle, Maine.
Artists, including painters, metal smiths and woodworkers, among others, will re-imagine the ordinary egg, an object of daily life whose form and function gives rise to life itself and invites exploration and commentary.
Seamark is EGGS-CITED to have such artists participating as Japanese Sumi-e artist and painter Frederica Marshall, woodworker Geoff Warner, painters Jill Hoy and Bruce Bulger, and found-object sculptor Peter Beerits. Should artists need an inspirational springboard, goose eggs are still available at the Seamark offices.
The silent auction will begin Thursday evening, August 5th with a preview and artist’s reception from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Pearson Legacy Gallery. The artwork will be on display throughout the weekend of August 6-8 and patrons are welcome to continue silent bidding. Gallery hours are 10:00 AM to 5 PM daily.
The festivities will culminate Sunday evening with the live auction and celebration. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served. Auction items may be purchased with cash, credit card or check.
Local businesses and individuals are urged to participate in the auction by donating services that might include everything from event-catering to harbor tours to house-cleaning.
Seamark, a nonprofit organization founded in 1988, is dedicated to making visual arts accessible and affordable to community members of all ages and abilities, and stimulating a lifelong appreciation of the creative process through its art workshops, community work, and summer arts camp.
