BLUE HILL, Maine — Deer Isle author Jane McCloskey will read from her new book Robert McCloskey: A Private Life in Words and Pictures¬† at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Blue Hill Public Library. Jane is the daughter of famed children’s book author Robert McCloskey. Her first book, this memoir reveals details that few knew about her reclusive father and shows examples of his artwork that are unknown outside the family.
Robert McCloskey is one of the most beloved American children’s authors of all time. His eight books (including Make Way for Ducklings, One Morning in Maine, Time of Wonder and Burt Dow Deep-Water Man) are 20th century icons, winning two Caldecott Medals and two Caldecott Honors for Books. He and the family did indeed live on the Maine island that figures so largely in many of his books. But they also lived in New York State, in St. Thomas and among the expatriate artistic set in Taxco, Mexico.
This event is sponsored by the Blue Hill Public Library and is free and open to everyone! Books will be available for sale and signing.
