WINTERPORT — A language/pre-literacy DVD is available, free of charge, for parents and caregivers of children from newborns through pre-school age. The production of the video was supported by a grant from the Waldo County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
The “Raising Successful Readers” video, produced by My Thrill Studio in Winterport, is designed to help parents and other family members to engage their young children in activities known to develop success with reading.
“We’re learning more and more how important it is to have children ready to read when they enter public school,” said Stephanie Francis, school counselor at the Leroy H. Smith School in Winterport. “We are hoping to encourage more parents/caregivers to spend time working with their children from birth and during those crucial early years as that is what research shows is so important.”
Three hundred copies of “Raising Successful Readers” will be distributed to families with children from birth to five years of age in Winterport as well as any family, school, agency or other organization within Waldo County or the MSAD#22 communities of Newburgh and Hampden.
For more information or to request a copy of the video, contact Stephanie Francis at the Leroy Smith School via phone, 223-4282 or e-mail, SFrancis@sad22.us.
