PULITIZER PRISE WINNING AUTHOR TO SPEAK IN CASTINE

CASTINE, Maine — Historian Annette Gordon-Reed will deliver the third annual Deborah Pulliam Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Delano Auditorium on the  campus of the Maine Maritime Academy.

Professor Gordon-Reed is best-known for her research dealing with Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Heming and their family. Her book The Hemings Family of Monticello won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 2009, as well as fifteen other awards. Last year President Obama presented her with the National Humanities Medal, and she was the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship – often referred to as the “genius grant”.
