BROOKS, Maine - This 4th of July several area Waldo County fire departments will compete for the title of ‘best chili in the county’ at the first annual Fireman’s Chili Cook-off.
The competition, open to all Waldo County fire departments, will take place at the Brooks Community Park as part of this year’s Brooks Field Days celebration. Participating fire departments will submit their tastiest bowls of chili to be judged on July 4th. The winner will be decided by people’s choice. All tasters can purchase a ballot at the Chili Cook-off Booth and vote for only one chili. Additional votes can be cast by purchasing more ballots.
The voting begins at 11 a.m. and will continue until 3 p.m., at which time the ballots will be tallied and the winner announced. The champion of this year’s Chili Cook-off will receive a trophy contributed by an anonymous donor. The winning fire department will have their name and winning year engraved on the trophy by the Brooks Park Boosters.
The gate admission for this year’s Brooks Field Days at the Community Park on Route 139 in Brooks is $2 for adults (age 13 and up); children 12 and under are admitted at no charge.
All proceeds from the Chili Cook-off will benefit the Brooks Park Boosters for future community events.
