BANGOR, Maine–Penquis, a nonprofit organization providing services to low- and moderate-income individuals in Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties, reports that it still needs 400 backpacks for children who would otherwise not have one to start the school year. Penquis partnered with Blueberry Broadcasting and Dunkin‚Äô Donuts to collect the backpacks but requests for backpacks outnumbered the current donations so Penquis is reaching out to individuals, churches, businesses and community partners asking for help in collecting more backpacks. To participate, you can donate online at www.penquis.org/ or drop off a new backpack at one of the Penquis offices at 262 Harlow St., Bangor; 50 North St. Dover-Foxcroft; or 170 Pleasant St. Rockland. Donations are needed by Saturday, Aug. 20, so the backpacks can be distributed to families in time for school. Penquis extends its thanks to Manna Ministries of Bangor for providing school supplies for the backpacks.
