Orono Fire Department Begins Poster Campaign to Save Lives

Orono -

ORONO – The Orono Fire Department will unveil a new poster designed to encourage the use of smoke detectors by homeowners and renters at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28.  A press conference will be held at the Orono Fire Station to kick off Fire Prevention Week and thank Brookings and Smith Funeral Home for their effort in creating the ad campaign. The poster will be on display and firefighters will be giving tips on fire safety. The posters were designed by 2nd Lieutenant Kevin Sirois, Firefighter Dennis Bean, and Firefighter Matt Grindle as part of the ongoing fire prevention effort in the town.

Fire prevention week runs from Oct. 3 – 9. This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with.” Smoke detectors are an effective tool to alert occupants when there is a fire but only work if they are installed and maintained properly. Smoke detectors should be installed on every level of the house at a minimum. They should not be removed or disabled. Batteries should be changed when you change the clocks for daylight savings time and smoke detectors should be replaced every ten years. For more information please contact Lieutenant Scott Luciano at 207 866 4000.
