Opera Preview: Don Giovanni

BLUE HILL, Maine — Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni comes to the Grand Theater on Saturday, Oct. 29, by live simulcast in a new production from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. To help music lovers prepare for this event, the Bagaduce Music Lending Library and Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library will join together to introduce and study this theatrical journey at 1 p.m.¬† Friday, Oct. 28 in the Howard Room of the Blue Hill Public Library. In this production, the handsome Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecien sings the title role of Mozart’s timeless anti-hero. The young Kwiecien is rapidly becoming identified with this classic role. At the age of 35, it is notable that he is singing a leading role with the Met.

Local opera expert Tony Downer and opera enthusiast David Porter will summarize the plot, introduce the music and share some ideas of special ways to enjoy the Saturday simulcast. All are welcome, no previous opera knowledge is needed, and admission is free. For more information, call the library at 374-5515.
