Ninth Annual Gotwals Concert

Ray Cornils, Portland Municipal Organist

DEER ISLE – Ray Cornils, organist, will be the guest artist for the ninth annual Gotwals Concert at the First Congregational Church, Deer Isle, at 7pm on Sunday, July 11.  Cornils will perform on the church’s 1881 Carl Barckhoff organ. The program includes works by Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, Massenet, Nicholas Bowden, Myron Roberts and Porter Heaps.

Cornils is the Municipal Organist for the City of Portland. He presides over America’s first municipal organ, the Kotzschmar, which was built in 1912 and later enlarged to 102 ranks and 5 manuals. He is Minister of Music at First Parish Church, UCC in Brunswick and is on the music faculties of Bowdoin College, the University of Southern Maine and the Portland Conservatory of Music. He performs regularly with the Portland Symphony Orchestra.

The concert, free and open to the public, will be followed by a reception. The Gotwals Concerts are made possible by the Vernon and Carol Gotwals Music Fund.
