TOPSHAM, Maine — The Maine Chapter of the Romance Writers of America (MERWA) will host Terri Brisbin, Reality and Research:
How, How Much, When, and When Not to Use It, Saturday, Sept. 17, at Ruby Tuesdays in the Topsham Fair Mall.
As a romance writer who sets their stories in fictional worlds, historical periods or even today’s contemporary times, you must decide how much reality to use in your fiction. So, do you need to know real history or facts in order to build your world or can you make it all up? Well, the answer is both!
But then, how do you find and collect the research you need? How do you integrate all that research information and tidbits into your story without being obvious? Terri Brisbin, the author of more than twenty-five historical and paranormal romances, will discuss the basics of research and world-building – why, how much, how to, when and when not—and the process of using it or ignoring it when you write. (For writers at all levels).
Terri Brisbin has been writing romance fiction since 1995 and has more than 25 historical and paranormal romance novels, novellas and short stories published since then. When not living the glamorous life of a romance author in the southern NJ suburbs (or lusting after Gerard Butler), Terri spends her time being a wife to one, mom to three as well as a dental hygienist to hundreds.
A National Readers’ Choice Award finalist, three-time RWA RITA finalist, and winner of the NJRW Golden Leaf and Desert Rose Golden Quill, Terri is now working on more romance novels and novellas for release through 2012.
