MaineStage Shakespeare Announces Inaugural Season

Kennebunk -

KENNEBUNK, Maine -  MaineStage Shakespeare, a new outdoor classical theater company presents the inaugural season. This summer, we present three of William Shakespeare’s best-loved works: Romeo and Juliet, The Comedy of Errors, and a special family-friendly A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to run in alternating repertory, July 1st – August 13th , Thursdays through Saturdays at 7 and Saturdays and Sundays at 2. Our outdoor theater is conveniently located in downtown Kennebunk’s Lafayette Park with easy access to ample free parking. Thanks to the generous support of the Maine community, we are proud to offer an entirely free season.

This summer, MaineStage Shakespeare brings the world’s most iconic love story, Romeo and Juliet, to vivid life. In a city torn apart by violence, love blossoms in the unlikeliest of places – between the son and daughter of two rival families. You may know the story, but you’ve never seen it like this before!

Our production of Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy of mistaken identity, The Comedy of Errors, really puts the “Maine” in “MaineStage!” Two sets of long-lost twins, a jealous wife, and misplaced money add up to double trouble in this wacky nautical nightmare. We’re matching Shakespeare’s classic text with Kennebunk’s historic coast.

Four lovers flee to the forest realm of the squabbling fairy king and queen in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Members of our ShakeSTAR Kids Camps can be seen onstage in this family-friendly matinee every Saturday at 2 pm.

Become a ShakeSTAR! This summer, we are thrilled to offer two exciting programs that will enthrall, challenge, and inspire local youth. Campers have the opportunity to write a short play to be performed as a “curtain raiser”, or take on supporting roles in our Midsummer matinee. Classes include acting, improvisation, Shakespeare, storytelling, dance, arts and crafts, stage combat and more!
