ROCKPORTâ The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship has issued a call for entries for âMaine Wood 2012.â This will be the third in an ongoing series of juried, biennial exhibitions designed to showcase the breadth, creativity, and excellence of wood craftsmanship in Maine, and to promote the artistic and economic development of Maineâs woodworking community. Artists and artisans working in wood, including furniture makers, turners, carvers, and sculptors, are encouraged to submit original pieces that were made in Maine during the last five years, exhibit excellence in craftsmanship and design, and have wood as their primary material. The submission deadline is July 15, 2011.
$2,250 in prizes will be awarded at the opening night reception on Friday, December 2.Â Prizes include $350 from Maine Coast Lumber for âBest New Makerâ; $300 from DMT Diamond Whetstones for âBest Original Designâ; $300 from Rare Woods for âBest Use of Woodâ; $300 from Lie-Nielsen Toolworks for âJurorsâ Best in Showâ; $300 from Holt & Bugbee for âPeopleâs Choiceâ; $250 from Certainly Wood for âExceptional use of Veneerâ; $250 from Fat Andyâs Hardwoods for âOutstanding Craftsmanshipâ; and $200 from Woodcraft of Newington for âBest in Furnitureâ.
