DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. General admission is $5.00, and children under 10 years of age are admitted free.
This year Sawyer expects even more flavors. âOne of our judging categories is the âmost uniqueâ whoopie pie. That should bring in some delicious options!â Bakers will sell samples for just 25 cents.
With 600 people attending the first year and nearly 4000 the next, 5000 to 6000 people are expected to descend on downtown Dover-Foxcroft for this yearâs Festival. The Center Theatre, producer of the Festival, is ready for the event. âWeâve made the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival a part of our operating budget,â says Dwain Allen, Executive Director of Center Theatre, âItâs part of our commitment to bringing performing arts to our region.â This year Allen says that the Music Stage will be bigger and feature well-known bands.
The Music Stage has grown to feature well-known bands, again hosted by Birdie Goggins, the Mardenâs Lady. Bands include the local, acclaimed Doughty Hill Band; the eclectic folk-rock Zulu Leprechauns; and Rustic Overtones, whose New Way Out album is listed by Portlandâs Phoenix as one of the top ten albums of the decade.
This yearâs Festival has grown beyond the confines of the Center Theatre parking lot to include a pedestrian downtown. Says Sawyer, âThe Festival has grown so big that Center Theatre invited the Chamber and the Y to help.â Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Deb Boyd, says, âThis is a great opportunity for the Chamber to participate in something that triggers a business uptick downtown . We are happy to lend a hand to this yearâs Festival.â The Chamber has lined up more than 20 vendors and crafters to show their wares along pedestrian-only Main Street. âAnd to draw people to our vendors and our downtown businesses, weâll provide some varied entertainment, right in the street,â says Boyd.
