LEWISTON – The Maine Music Teachers Association (MMTA) will host its 2011 Spring Meeting and Biennial Pine Tree Piano Festival at Bates College in Lewiston¬† on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30.¬† Music teachers, students and music lovers from all over Maine will be attending this festival and participating in the two-day event.
Festival highlights on Friday will include a 4:30 pm presentation and performance by Maine native Henry Kramer who was one of six prizewinners of the 2010 United States National Chopin Piano Competition held in Miami. Dr. Robert Russell of University of Southern Maine (USM) will then give a lecture at 5:30 pm on the benefits of singing in instrumental lessons. The day will conclude with an 8 pm performance by the USM Chamber Singers directed by Dr. Russell. Saturday will be devoted entirely to the Pine Tree Piano Festival, a competition divided into elementary, junior and senior categories for students in grades 4-12.
To attend any portion of the day, please check the website, www.mainemusicteachers.org or come to the Olins Arts Center that day. There is a small fee for the afternoon lecture and performance. The 8 pm USM Chamber Singers concert is open to the public with a $5 suggested donation. The Pine Tree Competition is open to the public and free of charge. Any questions?
