BELFAST – The third annual Maine Farmers‚Äô Market Convention, presented by Down East Business Alliance, will be heldfrom 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.¬† Friday, Jan. 28 and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast.
The convention begins on Friday morning with a panel on ‚ÄúWhat’s Happening in Farmers’ Markets in Maine‚ÄĚ featuring panelists Dan Price, Deb Chadbourne, Mark Guzzi and Judy Blaisdell. The day includes a series of workshops on working with municipalities, how to work with EBT cards, social networking, how year round markets work and other topics. The keynote speaker is Kelly Verel of Project for Public Spaces. Kelly joined the Public Markets program at PPS in 2006 to support the Diversifying Farmers Markets Grant Program.
On Saturday, workshops include managing conflict, food safety, managing paperwork and event planning. There will also be an afternoon session for those interested in creating a statewide Maine Farmers‚Äô Market Association facilitated by Enid Wonnacott. This will be an opportunity to offer input into what a statewide association can do for you and your market.
