Lowell-Enfield Boy Scout Troop #64 Tenth Annual Ice Fishing Derby

Enfield -

ENFIELD, Maine — If the cold doesn’t get the angler’s blood moving the fishing will. Winter anglers are getting their ice fishing gear ready for Lowell-Enfield Boy Scout Troop #64’s 10th Annual Ice Fishing Derby on February 17, 2012 to February 19, 2012. This coincides, coincidentally, with the state’s free fishing days. That means that seasoned and novice anglers alike can put a trap in the ice and try their luck, without paying for a state license. All other state laws do apply however. The derby helps the Scouts earn their way to a week at Camp Roosevelt. This year’s camp fee for a week is three hundred and forty-five dollars. This can be a difficult amount to come up with in this economy so the Scouts work together to earn it.
Although Troop #64’s derby is one of the state’s smaller derbies, it is big on camaraderie and fun. Door prizes this year are a three hundred and fifty dollar and one hundred and fifty dollar gift certificates to Dick’s Sporting Goods. You do not have to enter a fish or be present to be eligible for the door prizes. Cash prizes for Togue, Salmon and Trout are one hundred dollars, fifty dollars and twenty five dollars for first, second and third largest for each species. Cash prizes are Pickerel, Bass and White perch are fifty dollars and twenty dollars for first and second largest for each species. The largest fish caught by a boy or a girl of 12 and under will win a $100.00 savings bond. All fish entered will also be put into a special “Anglers Drawing” for a unique prize. Tickets can be purchased at participating businesses such The Corner Store, The Handy Stop, Lloyd’s Store, Crommett’s Bait Shop, Thompson’s Hardware, Enfield General, B&W and Smart’s Hardware.
Anglers should enter all fish legally caught into the contest as the 2011 derby did not award all prizes due to lack of fish entered. Also, anglers should enter their fish regardless of the size as many winning fish last year and years past have been small fish.
The derby will be held from 3:00 pm on Friday, February 17, 2012 through 5:00 pm, Sunday, February 19, 2012. The weigh in for the derby will be on February 18 and 19, 2012 at the Ammadamast Grange in Enfield. Weigh in times are from noon to 5:30. Tickets for the Ice Fishing Derby and a Fuel Oil raffle can also be purchased at the weigh in. Tickets are a dollar each, each ticket is eligible for door prizes and five dollars worth of tickets covers entry fees into the derby. You do not have to enter a fish or be present to be eligible for the door prizes. Each angler may win only one cash prize. Troop #64 will also have hearty food on sale at the weigh in for anglers to enjoy, warm up and enjoy the company of other anglers and Scouts.
