ELLSWORTH -  Have you been looking for a great volunteer opportunity where you can be creative and make an amazing impact on a local child’s life? Please consider becoming a wish granter with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine.  Please RSVP to Eileen@maine.wish.org or 207-221-2306 to attend the next volunteer training session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Saturday, Oct. 2. This specially trained group of volunteers comes into direct contact with wish children and their families, working as a liaison between the family and the staff to fulfill each child’s dream. Wish Granters work in teams of two and most Wish Granters complete one or two wishes per year. There is no financial responsibility – all expenses are paid for by Make-A-Wish. Wish granting volunteers must be 21 years old or older, and must attend a one-day training.

Pictured here is volunteer wish granter Carolyn Dupre with Claire, 9, a Make-A-Wish child who visited Boothbay Harbor this summer for her wish to see puffins. On average, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine grants a wish to a Maine child every five days and wish granters are an essential part of helping deliver the mission of hope, strength and joy to these deserving children and their families.

In a note to Make-A-Wish, Claire’s mother thanked the Foundation for the wonderful memories they had while in Maine.
“It was priceless to see the endless smile on her face. She loved it all: from the limo rides, to the puffin cruises, Wilbur’s Chocolate Factory, The Puffin Center, Monkey See Monkey Do (Claire said she felt like she was flying on the zip lines here, which was also something she always wanted to do), and more.
She has everything we were able to purchase in puffins: hats, shirts, pj’s, socks, bags, pictures, etc. She has told me that, since she will be turning 10 next year, maybe it’s time to get the princess theme out of her room and change the theme to puffins. She seems to be happier than ever. We just got back from her PET and CAT scans and we can just hope and pray she stays well. You’ve all definitely given her a gift she and we will always treasure. Thank you doesn’t seem nearly enough for all everyone has done.”
