MILO – The Piscataquis Amateur Radio Club will sponsor the 26th Annual St Albans Hamfest at the Snow Devil’s Snowmobile Club facility on Bryant Road, St Albans¬† from 8am to noon on Saturday, August 14th. Ham radio enthusiasts from all over Maine, other New England States and area Canadian provinces have been gathering for this annual event for the last 25 years. This is our only fund raising event during they year and we offer chances for a “grand prize” with a $5 donation at the gate, along with a number of subsidiary prizes. This year the club is giving away a FT-1900R 2 meter radio as our grand prize. A area Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Volunteer Examiner (VE) group will offer FCC Amateur Radio exams at 9AM at the snowmobile club house. The Snow Devils Snowmobile Club will offer a breakfast/brunch and lunch menu which is also one of their major annual fundraisers. We invite anyone who is interested in Amateur Radio to come and meet ham operators for all walks of life who enjoy this great hobby and public service opportunity. Ham Radio provides free public service radio communications services to anyone in need during emergencies and public service events such as the Kiwanis Piscataquis River Race, as well as events such as Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) where we have an open house at our club facility at the Piscataquis County Emergency Operations Center in Milo. Check out our web site at k1pq.org to find out more about our club and activities. The St Albans Hamfest is sanctioned by the American Radio Relay League, Newington, CT.
