BANGOR, Maine — Robert J. Winglass, the Maine Department of Labor Commissioner will be visiting the Penobscot Job Corps Academy (PJCA) from 8:15-9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Commissioner Winglass will be touring the welding shop to specifically see the VRTEX 360 virtual welding simulator. The PJCA is the first educational institution in New England to purchase and integrate the VRTEX 360 into their curriculum. The VRTEX 360 creates a realistic simulation of welding in a variety of settings. The simulator provides immediate and continuous feedback to the student and instructor. Assessment of the student’s performance is based on a numerical weld score, which is derived from American Welding Society guidelines.
The commissioner is interested in seeing first hand how the VRTEX 360 allows students to improve their welding skills,as well as how it impacts their opportunities for employment.
