ROCKLAND – Art Space Gallery will host an opening reception artists Anne Wooster Metcalfe, Dan Bennett, Jill Caldwell and Charles Laurier Dufour from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, at 342 Main Street in Rockland.
Using fresh, succulent verdant ferns that were harvested right here on Maine’s midcoast, Anne Wooster Metcalfe creates mono-type prints. Each piece is unique and printed using oil based etching inks, forever fixing that plant’s expression, its “impression”, on paper.
Dan Bennett hand fabricates and forges silver and gold to incorporate fossils, crystals, and stones into wearable art. How many artists can boast of having Maine tourmaline and dinosaur bones on their workbench?
Using personal reflections on people and places, Jill Caldwell paints bold abstract landscapes. While Jill considers these paintings to be personal narratives and her own “internal landscapes”, appreciators of fine abstract art will find themselves calmly escaping to distant spaces via their own interpretations.
Primarily recognized for his nature photography and for his fine art figure work, Charles Laurier Dufour presents “Organic Chemistry”, a short series focused on the relationship, the “chemistry”, between humans and the living Earth.
