History and Hearsay:Tales of Castine Houses

Castine -

CASTINE – The Castine Historical Society is pleased to announce that the summer 2011 Exhibition will recount and display as many as 15 Castine house stories. The exhibit seeks to tell a few of the intriguing tales that circulate in Castine about shoes found in walls, famous visitors, and infamous householders. Anecdotes describing the House of Sin, Eleanor Roosevelt, and deserting British soldiers are but three examples inspiring the exhibit concept.

The historical society‚Äôs exhibit committee encourages you to submit a story about your house (or a story you’ve heard about someone else’s house!) for inclusion in the summer 2011 exhibit. Please send Castine house stories to Paige Lilly,¬† curator@castinehistoricalsociety.org or Castine Historical Society, P.O. Box 238, Castine, Maine 04421 by Feb. 14.
