Grandfamily Appreciation Day to be celebrated at Blaine House Tea

Augusta -

BANGOR, Maine — Maine Kids-Kin of Bangor, a program of Families And Children Together, reports that Gov. Paul LePage has proclaimed September 15, 2011 as Grandfamily Appreciation Day in the State of Maine.
Currently, as reported by the 2010 Census, nearly 17,000 children in Maine are being raised by their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. These families are known as Grandfamilies.
Grandfamily Appreciation Day will kick off with a Blaine House Tea from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the governor’s residence in Augusta.
This event will bring together Grandfamilies, legislators, state officials, and professionals from around the State.
First Lady Ann LePage will be announcing the Grandfamily Appreciation Day proclamation from the Governor.
Donald Lynch, Director of Maine Kids-Kin said, “this event will bring us together to show our appreciation of Grandfamilies throughout the State of Maine, and honor their commitment and dedication to the children they are raising.”
If you, or someone you know, is raising a relative’s child, contact Maine Kids-Kin, a
