CASTINE – Germain Doucet, to whom all those named Doucet or Doucette in North America can trace their ancestry, will be honored on August 15, 2010, the national day of Our Lady of the Assumption, patron saint of the Acadians, at a ceremony at Our Lady of Holy Hope R. C. Church in Castine, Maine.
A commemorative plaque honoring Doucet, who commanded the French garrison at Fort Pentagoet from 1635 to 1645 in the early days of the settlement of Acadia, will be presented to the church, which today stands on the site of the fort. Several members of Les Doucet du Monde (Doucets of the World) will attend the presentation. The plaque will be prominently displayed at the entrance to the newly renovated church.
