Frenchman’s Bay Library Closes for Renovation

Sullivan, Maine. -

SULLIVAN – Frenchman’s Bay Library in Sullivan will be closed for three days in August so that the renovation of the circulation area can be completed. There will be no library services on Saturday August 21, Monday August 23, or Tuesday, August 24, the Board of Trustees announced after its meeting yesterday. The Library will resume its normal schedule on Thursday, August 26. Although the Library will be closed, the Wi-Fi service remain accessible from the parking lot of the Sullivan-Sorrento Recreation Center where the Library is housed.

The goal of the renovation is to provide a more welcoming entry to the library, as well as a more efficient working space for the staff and volunteers. Along with a new circulation desk and workstation, there will be more storage added for library supplies. Heading up the installation of the new furniture is Bennett Sawyer of Sorrento, who was elected to the Library’s Board of Trustees at the Annual Meeting in June of this year.

The renovation is the first phase of a larger project which will see the reorganization of the Library’s interior to provide new computer workstations, a relocated audio-visual collection, and the creation of a new Maine Collection Reading Room for the Maine Collection and of a new Family Nook to house the children’s resources. Phase One of this project is supported by a grant from the Maine Charity Foundation Fund, administered by the Maine Community Foundation; subsequent phases will be supported by further grants and donations. Contributors may send a donation marked “Renovation Fund” to Frenchman’s Bay Library, PO Box 215, Sullivan, ME 04664.

Frenchman’s Bay Library is a private not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization supported by the towns of Sullivan and Sorrento and by generous donors. Located in the Sullivan-Sorrento Recreation Building at 1776 U.S. Hwy 1 just east of the Hancock-Sullivan Bridge, it is open 15 hours each week. It has a collection of approximately 20,000 items and four public computers, all free for the use of the community. More information at 207-422-2307.
