HOLDEN, Maine –¬† University of Maine’s forest vegetation instructor, Steve Sader, will host a tree I.D. walk from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Fields Pond Audubon Center. Learn how to identify evergreen conifers and hardwood trees and shrubs in their leaves-off condition using clues of their size, form, and habitat; leaf, twig, buds, fruit; and bark characteristics. Learn how to use a winter plant key to identify unknown species. Steve will demonstrate how to collect, press and dry a plant specimen with his homemade plant press. Participants will learn how to build their own plant press. Bring binoculars if you have them.
