ORONO – The New Renaissance Singers are pleased to announce that Drew Albert has accepted the position of Music Director for the coming 2010-2011 season. Originally from Millinocket Maine, Drew is finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in vocal music education from the University of Maine in Orono. He is currently student teaching at Lee Academy in Lee Maine.
While at the University of Maine, Mr. Albert has been a member of The Black Bear
Men’s Choir, Collegiate Choral, Euphony, the opera workshop, and musical productions.
For four years he performed with the University Singers, later serving as the group’s assistant conductor. Additionally, he has been the musical director of The Maine Steiners, an a cappella group. Mr. Albert is thrilled to be conducting The New Renaissance Singers, and to share his love of music and choral singing.
Laura Green Estey, director of NRS for the past five seasons, has accepted a position teaching oboe at the University of Maine in Orono while Louis Hall is on sabbatical. Ms. Estey plays oboe and English horn with The Bangor Symphony Orchestra.
Darrell Kent, NRS president, speaks for the group when he says that as difficult as it is to see Laura Estey move on, it’s a new day for The New Renaissance Singers as they enthusiastically anticipate working under the direction of Drew Albert.
The New Renaissance Singers are now entering their nineteenth season. Performing two or more concerts each year, they also participate in other community events. Members come from diverse occupations in our community and are both professional and non- professional musicians as well as students of voice and instrument. The chorus sings a wide variety of music, both old and new; madrigals, carols, chanteys, classical, pop, jazz and more.
The New Renaissance Singers welcome choristers who love to sing, who wish to share in their fun and expand their musical repertoire.
