STATEWIDE, Maine — Distinguished Young Women of Maine is pleased to announce DeAnne Start as the new state chairperson. DeAnne and a group of outstanding volunteers have begun coordinating the 2012 program to be held February 25, 2012 in Lewiston at the Lewiston Middle School Auditorium located on Central Ave.
Distinguished Young Women, formerly Americaâ€™s Junior Miss, is the oldest and largest national scholarship program of its type for high school females. Headquarters in Mobile, AL, Distinguished Young Women has provided life-changing experiences for more than 200,000 young women and more than $90 million in scholarships for college during its 54 years of operation. Diane Sawyer, Deborah Norville, Kim Basinger, and Debra Messing are just a few of our well know past participants, but many others have achieved success in various professions such as business, law, journalism, medicine and religion.
Distinguished Young Women of Maine is an official preliminary for the national program and provides cash scholarships to high school senior girls throughout the state of Maine. One young woman is selected among Maineâ€™s participants to represent the state and compete for more than $150,000 at the National Finals in Mobile, Alabama in June 2012.
