ELLSWORTH, Maine — Woodlawn‚Äôs Summer Lectures Series will host College of the Atlantic professor Todd Little-Siebold to give a lecture entitled What Did They Grow: A History of Agriculture in Downeast Maine 1820-1920 from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Museum.
As part of his lecture, Little-Siebold, will discuss the changing agricultural economy of downeast Maine by looking at the ways in which producers shifted from small scale and local production of flax, cereals, hay and other products to more market-oriented and specialized farming in the century from 1820 to 1920. With an emphasis on apples and other ‚Äúunknown‚ÄĚ products, the lecture entitled; What Did They Grow: A History of Agriculture in Downeast Maine 1820-1920 will examine the local food system in historical perspective.
