BLUE HILL, Maine — The public is invited to participate in the Blue Hill Public Library Play Reading Group from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Library. The group will meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month until summer. The play selected for this month is Thornton Wilder‚Äôs Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Skin of Our Teeth.
The Skin of Our Teeth is a play about George Antrobus, his wife, two children, and their maid Lily, who live in Excelsior, New Jersey. The play tells the story of the twentieth-century seemingly average American family in three acts which recount such epochal events as the onset of the Ice Age, the start of The Great Flood, and the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Combining farce, burlesque, and satire Thornton Wilder departs from his recognized use of nostalgia and sentiment to illustrate the human condition as the family narrowly escapes one disaster after another, from ancient times to the present.
The group welcomes inexperienced and experienced readers alike. The only criteria are the love of plays and the joy of reading them aloud among like-minded theater fans. For more information, call 374-5515 or 374-5248.
