BLUE HILL, Maine – The Blue Hill Public Library’s “Chickadee Club” will be reading a new book at 11 a.m. Saturdays in December: Interrupting Chicken, a 2011 Caldecott Honor Book written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein. Temporarily replacing the Library’s old “Saturday Stories,” the Chickadee Club is for kids aged five to ten years and features one or more books each month that are in the running for the Chickadee Award: A Maine Children’s Choice Picture Book Project. Kids will listen to the story and do fun activities that will help them explore the story’s meaning.
Interrupting Chicken is the story of a father-daughter pair of chickens—the father is reading bedtime stories to his daughter, and she constantly interrupts to change the course of the story, especially if it starts to get scarey. The book is dramatically illustrated with intense colors that kids appreciate.
The Chickadee Award is given annually to a picture book published the previous year, as selected by Maine students, teachers and librarians. The Blue Hill Library’s Chickadee Club will be involved in helping to choose this year’s winner. For more information call Pat at 374-5515.
