ROCKLAND, Maine — Come join the fun and help advance research and the restoration of seabirds along the Maine coast by attending a BBQ fundraiser for Project Puffin from 4:30-9 p.m. Friday August 12, in Pemaquid. For nearly forty years Project Puffin, which is apart of the National Audubon Society, has sponsored the restoration of habitat for the Atlantic Puffin, and other seabirds, along the coast of Maine. This successful project has been funded entirely by donations from friends around the world, but especially from Maine. This project is not saving any one bird or even any one species of bird, but is restoring what was part of the Maine coast ecosystem for thousands of years and also provides funding for young researchers to continue their studies. Tickets to this event are just $25.00 per person (children under 12 by donation) and activities for the evening include conversations with student interns that perform the seabird field research, a full Texas style BBQ dinner with all the trimmings, live music performed by the Boneheads, a live auction and raffle, and a cash bar.
Some items to be auctioned are a number of original paintings by local artists, a one night stay at The Monhegan Inn on Monhegan Island (roundtrip fare to Monhegan and breakfast included), a set of 4 wine glasses and a carafe with etched puffins on all pieces, a kayaking trip in mid-coast Maine, to just name a few.
We will have a limited number of ‚ÄúSponsors Tables‚ÄĚ available for $400 per table. This tax deductible donation will give you or your company eight tickets to the BBQ and several very nice gifts plus special recognition. An intern will be assigned to your table to answer any questions you or your guests may have regarding the seabird restoration projects in 2011. To reserve a Sponsor‚Äôs Table contact Sandy or Sherry Flint, 207-677-3123.
All other tickets can be purchased with a VISA or MC on line at: www.audubonaction.org/projectpuffinbbq, or at the Project Puffin Visitor Center in Rockland 596-5566, or at the Maine Coast Bookshop in Damariscotta.
