BELFAST – The Belfast Garden Club monthly meeting and speaker series resumes at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday,¬† Sept. 21 and will feature a talk by Ava Goodale, Outreach Coordinator for Coastal Mountain Land Trust. Ava will discuss new Land Conservation projects in the Belfast Area. The talk, which the public is encouraged to attend, will begin at 2pm following a brief public Club business meeting which starts at 1pm. Both meeting and talk take place at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church Parish House, 95 Court Street, Belfast.
The Belfast Garden Club has promoted civic beautification and presented speakers to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening since 1929. The Club offers monthly public meetings in fall, winter and spring. The meetings begin with brief attention to Club business, followed by a short presentation by a Garden Club Member on an environmental or conservation topic. This month member Ann Mullen will discuss ‚ÄúLife in a Teaspoon of Soil‚ÄĚ a look at worms, microbes, and plant growth. After a break, featuring snacks and finger foods provided by the Hospitality committee, Ava Goodale, the featured guest speaker will give her presentation on Belfast land conservation projects.
The Belfast Garden Club is responsible for maintaining over 12 public gardens in the City. This year a grant from the Golden Rule Foundation will be used to improve the garden around the Chapel at the Grove Cemetery. The Garden Club hosts the Open Garden Days all summer, and supports education through donations to the Belfast Free Library, Troy Howard Middle School Garden Project, and an annual Education Scholarship. Each meeting of the Belfast Garden Club is open to the public. The Club welcomes new members and volunteers year round.
