ELLSWORTH – “Why Industrial Wind Isn’t Green and Is Destroying Maine’s Mountains” is the subject of a talk and documentary film with featured speaker Jonathan Carter of Forest Ecology Network.¬† A first screening will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21 at The Mill Grind in Ellsworth and at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 at the Blue Hill Public Library.
The presentation is centered on the Highland Mountains and Bigelow
Preserve (close to Flagstaff Lake and the Appalachian Trail), which
are threatened by a massive wind project: dozens of turbines and
hundreds of miles of transmission lines to carry expensive power
(intermittently) throughout New England. Carter will lead a
discussion about impacts of industrial wind on the forest environment, wildlife, and human health, as well as on state and local economies dependent on unspoiled natural areas to attract tourism.
