Artist Book Exhibit at the Blue Hill Public Library

Blue Hill -

BLUE HILL, Maine — A collaborative of local book artists will present an exhibition of recent work in the Blue Hill Public Library’s Howard Room cases starting Feb. 3, through the end of March. The show is titled Interpreting the Random: Books made by Artists. According to one of the artists, Karen O. Zimmerman, “artist books combine content with art inviting the viewer and reader to interact and take part.”

The handmade artist books in this collection incorporate drawing, collage, photography, found objects and text. For each book, a word was randomly selected and served as the starting point for each artist¹s work. Themes in the show include Silence, Wheels, Layers, and Middle. In addition, one book was designed to fit in an unmarked brown paper bag.

According to the group, each artist brings their own interpretation to the theme and the variety of content and structure reflects the unique voice and viewpoint of the artist. The artists include: Holly Bertrand of Blue Hill, Anne-Claude Cotty of Stonington, Kristy Cunnane of Orland, Debbie Holmes and Jennifer Pappas of Bucksport, Beth Smith of Stockton Springs, Cathy Willey of Mount Desert, and Karen O. Zimmermann of Bar
Harbor. The exhibit will be available during library hours subject to the Howard Room meeting schedule. Those interested in viewing the exhibit are advised to call ahead to ensure the availability of the room. For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.
