BLUE HILL, Maine — Blue Hill Bach will present its debut concert at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, in Blue Hill. The performance will feature Brooklin mezzo-soprano Marcia Gronewold Sly, organist Jonathan Dimmock, oboist Stephen Hammer, violinist Heidi Powell, members of Baroque Orchestra of Maine, and a 16-voice choir. The program will include two solo cantatas for alto, BWV 169 and 170, and works that will showcase the church‚Äôs Karl Wilhelm pipe organ, as well as the double concerto in c minor, BWV 1060b, for oboe and violin. The concert will be recorded for release on CD.
Blue Hill Bach was founded to bring baroque music for voice and period instruments to the Blue Hill Peninsula. Drawing upon the wealth of talent in the region and visiting artists who specialize in early music, Blue Hill Bach will present historically informed performances of some of the most beautiful and profound music ever written. The all-Bach debut program promises to engage and delight all‚ÄĒeven those who are not well versed in the musical language of the baroque.
